Fun Christmas Present Labels

I am not a very traditional person when it comes to Christmas. I set my tree up shortly after Thanksgiving, start wrapping presents as soon as I buy them and put them under the tree to savor the vibe for weeks. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love the colors, the sparkles and glitz, the cooler air, the Christmas/winter movies on the Hallmark Channel, and my usual 2-1/2 weeks off from work.

When my daughters were little and then years later, the grandsons, they would look at all the present under the tree to see how many had their name on it and then got mad when one had more than the other. So I stopped putting names on the gift tags. Instead, I wrote holiday sayings or just bizarre words on the tags. I kept a secret list of the tags and cross-matched them to names. That way no one knew who was getting which present.

Each year there was a theme to the tags. The first year I did vegetables… green beans, broccoli, etc. The next year had general things… clouds, grass, sand, etc. But in the last few years, I’ve switched it up to holiday sayings, my favorite. I just Google’d Christmas or holiday sayings and made a list.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Big list of holiday sayings, terms, words
• Avery address or small shipping labels
• Color laser or inkjet printer
• Free online Avery Design and Print label maker

When you have your labels for gift tags and your list of sayings, head over to Avery to use their free label designer and generator tool. Pick your label size and rummage through their already pre-designed labels. Typically they are address labels. Just delete the address input boxes, create your own text box with the font and color of your choice and enter your sayings onto the label template. Then preview and print. You can also download and save the .pdf file to use it again.
