Modified Skinny Strips Quilt – Free Pattern
I really love the simplicity of this easy to make 2-1/2″ strip quilt. Use cut yardage or two jelly rolls, one print and one white. The finished quilt size is 61.5″ x 74.5″.
It uses:
- 37 print strips cut to 32.5″
- 74 white strips cut to 21″
The instructions say to sew a white strip onto each end of a print strip. Then you lay them out in a staggered fashion and cut off the excess white from each side. NO! Do not do that! It’s so wasteful.
Instead of 74 21″ white strips, only cut 37 white strips WOF. Then sew one white strip to the end of a print strip. That gives you one long strip. Now sew the two ends together to make a continuous loop like a Bargello loop.
Then from each loop, randomly cut the white strip at various locations so when they are laid out you get a staggered effect and you waste no cut-off white ends!
Here’s another version from Robert Kaufman Fabrics that is a mirror image of the style above, then twisted vertically. Instead of cutting the white strips, cut the print strips. Cute!
